WORD FROM THE PASTOR...

Dear Members and Friends,

We are all saddened by the recent loss of the Rev. Richard Michaelsen,
Pastor of First Church for 27 years.  But as we mourn his passing and as we
continue to pray for his family, I hope we also take time to give thanks to God
for the opportunity to have walked part of our earthly journey with Richard.
He led by example, sharing talents far beyond those related to ministry for
the benefit of the Church and the Winsted community.  His ministry laid a
strong foundation for our Church, and I know that he believed that those of
us who remain here in this world are called to continue ministering to those
in our Church, to our community, and to the world.

Richard also believed that our earthly lives are but a part of a larger
journey....a journey that begins with God, and a journey that allows us to
return to God after our work here on earth is done.  I agree wholeheartedly
with him, and although I'm sad, I'm also glad....glad that after a job well done,
Richard is home again with God.

God be with you all,

Mike

Yours in Christ,

Mike

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA: GREEN VALLEY YOUTH CHOIR  ~  UPDATE

An additional venue has been added thanks to our friends at First Church
of Christ Congregational in Norfolk.  Following the concert at First Church
on Monday, July 7th at 7 PM, they will be hosting a concert on
Wednesday, July 9th at 7 PM.
We would like to acknowledge the following sponsors: Northwest
Community Bank has donated $100 in sponsorship funds, Kelley Transit
for reduced bus fares, WZBG FM 97.3 has agreed to sponsorship in the
form of advertising for the event, The Yankee Pedlar Inn will be providing
overnight accommodations for their first night (necessary as to the
expected late hour of arrival) at an extremely discounted rate, The Coffee
Break will be providing paper plates and condiments for the picnics and
the Litchfield Locker has offered hotdogs at a reduced rate.
We are in the process of approaching other area businesses for
donations toward other costs associated with the trip, trying to raise
enough funds to rent a couple of 12 passenger vans.
The housing list is almost complete.  We only have to find
accommodations for 3 groups of 3 and 1 group of 2 left on our list.
We will need to feed them Lunch and Dinner the day of the 7th, and will
need folks to volunteer to bring food for a pot luck dinner the night of the
concert and/or goodies for the reception immediately following the
concert.
Most important of all...we need you to come to one of the concerts...and
support the efforts of the choir.  They have asked for no fees to present
this concert, only accommodations and the ability to sell their cd’s.  They
have raised over $300,000 to make this trip possible...so they can share
their music ministry with the likes of us!
Crikey!  2 years in planning...2 months until they are finally HERE!

The Church Cabinet is planning the semi-annual tag sale, bake sale
and Youth Car Wash for Saturday,  May 17th, from 8 AM til 3 PM.
You can help by cleaning out those attics and garages, while
remembering that one man’s trash...is another man’s treasure!  Time
to donate those Christmas gifts...you don’t quite know what to do
with...you know the ones!
You can also be checking your cookbooks for delicious temptations,
to bake and share for the Bake Sale.  We know there are a lot of
really great bakers at First Church.
And of course, driving your cars in dirty places, so they will need a
good washing will be helpful to our youth!
Items may be dropped off Wednesday through Friday of the week
prior.  If you have items that need to be picked up, please call Bruce
or send an email to
