Day 5

Freinds Old and New... And More Painting

Nearly 20 years ago, when First Church sponsored its first mission trip to Mexico, Dafne and Enrique met our chartered bus on the side of a highway leading out of Mexico City to provide us with cases of bottled water, soda, juice, sandwiches and snacks for our overnight trip to Oaxaca. Tonight, we had dinner with them, as well as their 2 children. Since our first mission trip, Enrique and his nephew were members of one of our trips, and Dafne is the one who connected us with Marian and Solyluna. We thank them for the 19 years of support!

In addition to a lot of painting, we met two college student interns who are working on a publicity campaign for Solyluna. One of their primary questions was why we would spend a week in a foreign country working with an organization like Solyluna. They were interested in our belief in serving others and sharing our gifts and talents beyond our normal social circles.

The team made considerable progress on the painting task.

Frank and Tannia installed the numerous screens that had to be taken down before painting.

Rain had the task of doing the most detailed touch up needed.

Before and after photos…

Just so you are not left with the impression that everything goes smoothly all the time…

How many rocket scientists does it take to figure out that paint does adhere to cardboard

And how many bank vice presidents does it take to get them back to the real job
