Day 4

More Painting and Treats for "The Manager"

It was another early morning for the Team, but we awoke to delightfully cool temperatures and no rain. Frankie again acted as our chef-in-residence and made everyone eggs cooked to order, bacon and toast. We then headed off to Solyluna’s Hidalgo building, the same place we worked yesterday.

Today’s tasks focused on outside painting. While 1 group focused on complete the painting of the front entryway, another group prepped the paint and the paint sprayer for the larger areas that would be painted white and blue.

There was a bit of discontent over the amount of time it took a team member to go to Home Depot for an electric screwdriver and some other supplies. It took just a few cat treats for “the Manager” to have the person most scared of heights assigned to work on the roof alone to scrape old paint off the top front of the building.

Luckily, the Team’s attention was diverted during lunch when the staff of Solyluna prepared Panuchos, hand-made corn tortillas with a thin layer of beans in the middle of the tortilla and shredded chicken, tomato, lettuce, pickled onions and other toppings. It’s a local culinary delight of the region, and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

We continued to paint until sunset, and in addition to the outside painting, Rain and Cat (with help from Debby) completed the painting of the office. We worked on the office yesterday, but it needed a second coat of paint to cover some of the prior colors as well as some touch-up.

We ended the day together with dinner, consisting of penne pasta, meat sauce, garlic bread, and salad. The salad was a special because this was our first chance to undertake the proper preparations. Before preparing the salad, we had to be soaked the lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers in a special disinfecting solution.
