Day 8

Finishing Touches, Dedication Day and another "Tiny Home"

The last work day! We can’t believe it goes by so fast, in a blink of an eye. We were up early again because some grading had to be finished at Michelle’s house for final inspection prior to the dedication today and the other crew wanted to finish the flooring in the down stairs of the house they had been working on. Mike took the guys, Alec, Aiden, Chaz, Julia and Cam with him to Michelle’s as they needed the strength to finish grading by noon when the inspector would come. They were successful and the house passed the final inspection.

The 2nd group which consisted of Jay, Laura, Debby, Lia and Sierra finished laying the flooring in Sandra’s house and headed to Michelle’s to get there by 12:30 for the dedication.

There is a lot of excitement when a home is dedicated. Family members and friends come together to celebrate. Michelle and her daughter are kept away and Alyssa and her team and our group helped to decorate the house, bringing in a bed with bedding, a couch, kitchen items, things for the bathroom, two wooden rocking chairs for the front porch and popup tents with chairs for all who attend are brought out for the ceremony. It was incredibly touching when Alyssa presented the home to Michelle (there were tears of joy) and lots of praise to God for bringing us all together to help one another.

As a surprise, our group had purchased a wooden playhouse to surprise Aurora and we all helped to put it together behind the house. After the dedication was done, we had a second “reveal”. We took a sheet and hid the playhouse and surprised Aurora who was overwhelmed!

We finally packed everything up and headed to Tiny Pines to drop off tools and supplies, then took a ride up the Oroville Dam to show Sierra and Chaz. It was still about 108 at 5pm and Alec for the 2nd year in a row chose to run the dam from beginning to end which is 1 mile long. The rest of us rode in the van as he ran!

On the way back we stopped and washed the van and truck and while we were paying, the man asked me if the kid in back wanted a lollipop the kid in the back was Lia who was highly insulted 😊 Since tonight was our last night in Oroville it was the adults turn to do some skits for the kids. They get such a kick out of us imitating them. After a dinner of pasta, meatballs, salad, and garlic bread, the adults performed 4 skits with the final one, the 10 commandments of Oroville which Mike wrote and was hilarious. Everyone is packing up and heading to bed as we head back to San Francisco tomorrow.
